I had a very enjoyable stay at the Swissôtel Mariánské Lázně. The strongest asset of the hotel is undoubtedly its staff. Throughout my stay, I found the team warm, discreet, attentive and genuinely helpful, whether at reception, at breakfast or in the wellness area. This human side of the hotel made a real difference, particularly whenever some of the building’s less intuitive or more temperamental features required a little assistance. The hotel also has many very tangible strengths. My room was spacious, with a high ceiling, large historic windows and a balcony with attractive wrought-iron detailing that gives it some of the character one hopes to find in Mariánské Lázně. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. Breakfast was generous, varied and very well stocked, with attentive and efficient service. I also greatly enjoyed the wellness area: the two pools are very pleasant, as is the sauna, and there is a particularly nice small lounge offering a side view towards the colonnade and the centre of town. Some of the massage functions in the pools did not appear to be active during my stay, although I could not tell whether this was due to a technical issue or simply because certain functions had not been enabled. Architecturally, the hotel is certainly impressive. Bringing several historic buildings together into a single property is an ambitious project, and the large central atrium is particularly striking. At the same time, the resulting layout can be rather counterintuitive. This is apparent from the moment one arrives. The spectacular main entrance seems, in practical terms, to be located at the rear of the hotel, and even when arriving by car from that side it is not necessarily immediately obvious where the entrance is. For a guest wishing to walk into town, meanwhile, that entrance is naturally much less useful. The accesses on the urban side are considerably less self-explanatory, and some of the secondary or service-side routes, including those around the garage, can paradoxically become the most practical way of reaching the town. The same applies inside. With different wings, lifts and intermediate levels, it takes some time to build a mental map of the hotel. On more than one occasion, staff kindly explained the route or accompanied me part of the way. Their willingness to do so was greatly appreciated, although it also illustrates how difficult the building can initially be to navigate. There were also two recurring technical issues in my room. The first concerned the air conditioning. Although the temperature was set to 18°C, the room remained noticeably warmer, and several attempts to adjust the system did not seem to produce the requested temperature reliably. Fortunately, the changeable but refreshingly cool weather made this an easy problem to work around: I eventually asked for the HVAC to be switched off for the remainder of my stay, and with the large windows open the room was extremely pleasant. The more significant issue concerned the room lighting. The system occasionally showed rather unreliable and unpredictable behaviour, with manual controls and automatic sensors seeming not always to interact consistently. At times, individual lights appeared to switch on or off without an immediately obvious reason. On one evening, most of the normal lighting in the room stopped responding altogether and only came back to life much later, during the early part of the night. I reported the problem to reception, and by the following day the system appeared to be functioning normally again. I cannot, of course, say what the technical cause was, but the behaviour was sufficiently erratic to be noticeable during the stay. None of this detracts from how helpful the staff were in dealing with the various small difficulties. I would particularly like to thank Pan Václav at reception, whose kindness and assistance accompanied me from the initial air-conditioning problem right through to check-out. I would also like to thank his very kind colleague whose name, unfortunately, I did not note. Together they thoughtfully arranged a small cake from the hotel café to be brought to my room as a gesture after the inconveniences I had encountered. It was a very much appreciated personal touch — and the cake was delicious. My thanks also go to Pan Oleh, who on my first day did much more than simply assist with my luggage: he personally showed me the way to my room, something I am not entirely sure I would have managed on my own at that point. I did not manage to note the names of all the other members of staff who contributed to my stay — at breakfast, in the café, in the wellness area and, not least, in housekeeping — but they deserve equal recognition. The hotel has the feel of a close-knit Czech team, enriched by several Slovak colleagues, including the very efficient Slovak leadership in the kitchen. I would also particularly like to acknowledge the many Ukrainian members of staff, some working directly with guests and others less visibly behind the scenes. Their efficiency, dedication and contribution are evident throughout the hotel and are absolutely essential to its day-to-day operation. Without them, the hotel simply could not function as it does. Despite the reservations above, I came away with very good memories of my stay. Mariánské Lázně is a wonderfully engaging place, and the hotel staff are every bit as engaging. I very much hope to have the opportunity to return in the coming years.

Location is wonderful , staff very nice and helpful , room very comfortable and good size , bathroom clean but had bad smell, in our room there was music with annoying base beat kept playing until 10 pm which ruined a rather beautiful stay in beautiful hotel

The hotel is new and quiet (with the exception noted below), and I like its design. It is very well located next to a park in the upper part of Mariánské Lázně, just a short distance from the colonnade. The underground car park and air-conditioned rooms are also definite advantages. My reservation regarding the quietness concerns noise from the rooftop bar. Although I had requested a quiet room and specifically asked not to be placed near the rooftop bar, my room was on the floor directly below it, and during the afternoon and evening I was disturbed by music from the bar, particularly the thumping bass. I understand that a particular room cannot always be guaranteed when the hotel is full, but it was clearly not fully occupied during my stay. I also had a problem with the bed. After the first night, when I found the standard pillows genuinely uncomfortable, I was given an orthopaedic pillow. However, when using it, the bed felt too short for me: my feet extended beyond the end, the duvet kept slipping off, and I repeatedly woke up. As a result, I simply did not sleep well. The exit from the car park is not very well designed and is probably impossible to negotiate via the designated lane in a larger vehicle such as an SUV. As a result, cars use the entrance lane to leave the garage instead. When I arrived, the porter actually advised me to use this lane when exiting. On one occasion, while entering, I encountered a car coming out and had to reverse back into the street—which is by no means free of traffic—and wait in the middle of the road until the other car had left. It was not a pleasant situation. The traffic-light system is not reliable, and the gates do not always open when entering or leaving, although the attendant at the entrance responds promptly when this happens. Security was another area that was not entirely satisfactory. After one of the housekeeping visits, the door to my room was left ajar. At the same time, there is effectively unrestricted access to the hotel through the main entrance, and no key card is required to use the lift to reach the guest-room floors. In addition, there is an entrance from Trebízského Street leading to the lift serving the rooftop bar, which also stops on the guest-room floors. This entrance remained open for several days during my stay because some repair work was apparently being carried out there. I consider this to be quite a serious security issue. I reported it to reception and was told that housekeeping had been notified. However, the fact that anyone can freely access the guest-room floors without a key card does not seem right to me. There are security cameras throughout the corridors, but even so, this arrangement does not feel sufficiently secure. On weekdays, the wellness area does not open until 9 a.m. If you would like to swim, use the hot tub or visit the sauna before breakfast, you have to rush either your time in the wellness area or your breakfast, as breakfast is served only until 10:30 a.m. on weekdays. Why can the wellness area not open at least at 8 a.m. on weekdays, as it does at weekends? I understand that there are fewer guests during the week, but if the room price is the same on weekdays as at weekends, the level of service should not be reduced through shorter opening hours. Moreover, the hotel’s DUVE website incorrectly stated that the wellness area opened at 8 a.m. every day. There are taps in the hotel dispensing water from the Vitality spring, which was discovered during the construction of the hotel. I was interested in its composition, but this information cannot be found anywhere on the website, apart from a statement that the water has higher concentrations of lithium and silicic acid. No detailed information is displayed by the taps in the hotel either. On one occasion, reception told me that the spring was very similar to the Forest Spring; on another, I was told that it was essentially the Forest Spring. No further information was available. I therefore sent a message to the hotel’s WhatsApp number—the same number from which I had received a welcome message on my first day—asking whether I could receive a detailed mineral analysis showing the concentrations of the individual constituents, including the lithium and silicic acid mentioned above. The reply I received stated only: “SO4, HCO3-Na.” However, this is not a chemical analysis and provides no information about the concentrations of the individual elements. I believe that the precise composition should be publicly available both on the hotel website and next to the taps themselves. For some guests, information such as the sodium content may be quite important. The hotel breakfast was excellent, with a wide selection, and everything was fresh and of good quality. I merely noticed that a selection of cheeses was available only at weekends; during the week, the only options were a herb cream cheese and ricotta. There was also a wider selection of both sweet and savoury baked goods at weekends. Overall, I was satisfied with my stay. The hotel was pleasant, and I would be happy to return. I mention the points above not as criticism, but as suggestions that may help the hotel improve its services.
